All of us in Europe are excited about supporting community projects that can help our nutrition education program.
We're always on the lookout for special opportunities that can make a difference. We choose activities that we like; projects that we can feel, believe in and support with all our heart. Activities that can help us "do what we say, and say what we do".
Here are some national and local projects that Dole is proud to support in Europe and South Africa…
Sponsorship of the European Youth Parliament 2006, Paris
Dole sponsored the 51st international session of the European Youth Parliament, held in Paris from March 23rd to April 2nd, 2006.
We thought this would give us a great opportunity to remind young participants about the importance of a well-balanced diet, by helping them understand how to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Dole chaired a workshop entitled:"What measures should the EU take in order to ensure a better balance of food amongst young people?"
Through committee work in this Youth Parliament, young Europeans are able to contribute to changing not only attitudes, but actual regulations, by recommending actions that will help improve everyone's diet. One of the 8 resulting motions from the committee sponsored by Dole was "to draw attention to the need for better labeling on food products".
International EGEA Conference 2007, Brussels
In April 2007, Dole supported the International EGEA Conference held in Brussels, an event supported and attended by the European Commission. This year's topic was "The role of fruit and vegetables in the fight against obesity".
We donated fresh fruit which was eaten by delegates during the breaks and used creatively by caterers in many of the dishes. The conference tackled a range of important issues related to the consumption of fruit and vegetables, including how consumption can help reduce child obesity and why price and taste can be barriers for some people.
