Look for a deep purple color if you want a ripe red banana. A lighter-colored skin indicates that it is not yet ripe. Avoid bruises and cracks in the peel.
Like any type of banana, this fruit will ripen at room temperature in a couple of days. Turn it occasionally and do not cover.
