Dole Peaches

About Peaches

  • Soft, juicy fruit with sweet and fibrous flesh
  • May be “clingstone” (flesh sticks to the large wooden stone) or “freestone” variety
  • Peaches are sumptuous but highly perishable, so don’t buy more than you need at one time!

Selecting

Choose well-shaped peaches that are only slightly soft to the touch. The characteristic peach-colored skin can vary from whitish to creamy yellow, will generally have a red blush when fully ripe and may be furry or smooth, depending on the variety.

Peaches bruise easily, which is why DOLE Peaches are picked and packed most carefully and protected in transport. To extend the season for this popular fruit, we store early varieties at just below 0°C for 2 to 4 weeks and refrigerate late varieties.

Storing

Firm peaches should ripen at room temperature (out of sunlight) in a couple of days. If they are already ripe, you can store them in your refrigerator drawer for 3 to 5 days.

Eating

There’s nothing more delicious than slices of fresh peach. Treat with lemon juice if you are using in a salad or dessert; peaches go brown in contact with air. Always wash before eating.
